After analyzing potential market conditions, the Antonys select different varieties to offer for sale, rotating through them periodically to see which perform and sell best. “We’re trying to get the best 200,” Antony said. Azaleas and rhododendrons can be very temperamental, requiring acid, organic soils and protection from the cold. Some varieties are not hardy enough for stressful mountain conditions. Others simply won’t grow in containers. “We tend to go back to old ones (that have proven successful).”
