After the fragile liners are added individually, by hand, the pots slide on rollers down a chute to a holding platform where they wait to be loaded on a truck. Once loaded, the plants are moved to polyurethane-covered greenhouses and carefully nurtured to sale size.
While solving the pot-filling problem was comparatively easy, Antony also needed a mechanized “dibbler,” or holedrilling, operation. Without that, there would be no way to get the liners planted quickly enough for the production line to function efficiently. Years before, Sandra’s father bought an ancient set of auger bits at an auction. “He said he was sure I would need them someday,” Antony said. “I never thought I would,” but the largest proved ideal for the project.
