As an engineering consultant and chief scientist for a defense contractor, Richard Antony spends much of his time commuting. Sandra carries most of the burden of managing the business and supervising daily operations, from inventory to propagation. Years ago, they both discovered how timeconsuming horticulture can be, so Richard applied his engineering expertise to installing as many labor-saving devices as possible.
The Antonys attended trade shows and read dozens of “how to” books before starting their operation. Once committed to the move, they learned a great deal more from other farmers and growers in the county. “We just bootstrapped our way along,” commented Richard. “I had never done any construction work before, no car repairs.
