A raffle drawing was held in which the following persons won the respectively noted gifts: David Roberts, a crochet doily; James Trago, scented candle; Ken Esolen, heart warmer; Joanie Ryder Roberts, cross stitched flower vase with flowers; Evelyn Simpson, heart warmer. One hundred dollars was collected for expenses. The reunion cake was purchased in Hancock, N.Y. and brought up by Audrey Trago, sister of David and Kevin.
Next year’s reunion will be held on Aug. 28 at the old home. It was announced that anyone wishing to stay at the house, or bring a tent or RV could do so.
David Roberts is currently the pastor of Thornton Gap Primitive Baptist Church near Sperryville. He has been a resident of the state some 15 years or more.
David’s ancestry has in it a surprising connection to Virginia’s own history. John Cook, a native of Colchester, England came to Delaware County about 1779. In partnership with his brother, Robert Cook, and two other fellows, the Cooks engaged in the timber business, rafting their work to Philadelphia, Pa. via the Beaverkill River.
