'ith the passage of the resolution authorizing
the issuance, sale and award of $3 million
worth of general obligation school bonds, the board of supervisors is looking at ways to minimize its effect on the real estate tax rate next year. - One way county residents may help the county to do that, and help reduce the amount of real estate tax to themselves, is to vote in favor of the meals tax in the November election. The tax on meals would primarily affect out-of-county residents who patronize restaurants here as tourists.
A 4 cent (the maximum allowed) tax on meals .would result in revenue that would amount to 2 cents bn the real estate tax rate. That would go a long way toward paying the debt service which will come due next year as a result of the bond sale.
