Jury recommends over
40 years incarceration
for Dwayne McCarter

Last week, at a two day hearing, a Rappahannock County jury found Dwayne Stuart McCarter guilty on three counts of grand larceny, breaking and entering, and the possession of a firearm.
The jury recommended a sentence of 40 years and six months incarceration for the crimes. Judge Jean Harrison. Clements presided and will impose the final sentence on Feb. 18, 2000.
The accusedhroks into the home of Mark Stoddard on Nov. 27, 1998 on Seven Mills Road. McCarter stole an 18 karat gold diamond ring, a Swiss army watch, a light blue Cordura bag, a McCullough 3200 chain saw, a black case, a Craftsman toolbox, two walkie talkie radios. McCarter also stole two firearms: a Ruger 10/22 .22 caliber rifle, and a Ruger mini 14 rifle.
Between Jan. 1 and 4, 1999, McCarter vandalized a Pepsi drink machine at Hackley’s General Store in Amissville.
Prior to these convictions, McCarter was tried in a Culpeper Court and convicted for crimes committed on Nov. 30, 1998. The recommended sentence was six years for statutory burglary, three years for possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony and 12 months for petit larceny.
The judge suspended seven years and 10 months. McCarter is currently serving two years and two months.
