Want is the proud parent of five dogs, four of whom were adopted. She says, “I grew up showing dogs. I came here as a kennel staff member. I did that for eight months. Now I am the adoption coordinator.”

The shelter, located in Amissville, has been seeing some growth and change these days. In October of 1998, the county donated money to cohstruct a fenced in, quarter acre area for the dogs to frolic. Want says that three years ago, the shelter averaged 35 dogs at any given time. That number has risen to 45.

Want and her staff have been extremely successful in getting their dogs adopted.
