Ron Makela, who lives at 512 Battle Mountain Road, had two concerns with the application. He said, “I’m concerned, number one, with the time frame on this, it seems to have moved rather quickly, I would like to see it postponed.”
Makela also questioned whether it is proper for a person that is contracting on a property to make the application or should the property owner be the one making the application. John McCarthy said that the contracting owner should be the one making the application.
Dr. Wendy C. Ault, a pediatrician in Manassas, owns property on Valhalla Trail. She said, “I’m seriously not happy about this. I’m passionately committed to the idea that the use of the land be reasonable, agrarian, agricultural, quiet and not a commercial use of the land that’s in considerable difference to what I purchased land up there to do. I don’t want to be living next door to a commercial use of the land.”
Timothy and Heather Harms opposed the application as well. Mr. Harms said, “I live at the very end of the road that they’re proposing to build this establishment on, the nuisances have already started. I’ve already had people coming to my house asking if my house is the bed and breakfast. I think the entire situation is unacceptable.”
Phil Irwin, owner of Caledonia Farms, objected to the application due to the location of the bed and breakfast and the impact it would have on its neighbors.
