Library Director David Shaffer requested a 4.5 percent increase in the library’s budget, but the Board of Trustees went a little better and added a few thousand to raise the salary of the Director and the Children’s Librarian by six percent for the coming year.
The Director had proposed a 3.9 percent salary increase for library staff, but past and proposed teacher salary increases in the County led some Board members to seek, successfully, an improvement over what was felt to be a modest request.
The bottom line for the proposed budget, as amended, will be approximately $122,000—a 5.5 percent increase over last year. The greatest percentage increase in the budget—200 percent—will be in children’s programs, where funding will increase from $500 to $}500.
