There are two changes Virginia should make to protect the innocent.

First, DNA testing must be made available to anyone facing the death penalty. DNA evidence is even more conclusive than fingerprints, and can often clear a suspect quickly. Anyone accused of a capital crime must be given the opportunity to have appropriate evidence subjected to DNA testing, at the state’s expense if necessary.
