Rappahannock News Photo Barbara C Wayland Competition Winners: Samantha Breeden, 17, a senior at Rappahannock County High won first place in the High School Division on Sunday, Feb. 25 for her Per La Gloria D’Adorarvi by Giovanni Bononcini at the annual 2001 Bland Music Competition. Nicole Marie Espinola, age 11, and a fifth grader at Wakefield Country Day School won first place for her piano piece, The Little White Donkey by Jacques Ibert. The girls have been invited to perform before the RAAC sponsored movie on Friday, March 2. The Sunday contest was sponsored by the Rappahannock Lions Club. The annual Bland Music program was established in 1948 to assist and promote cultural and educational opportunities for the musically talented youth of Virginia, 1 The contest is in honor of James Bland, the great Black writer of over : 700 American Folk songs.
