Historical Society closed for move

For the next couple of weeks, the Rappahannock Historical Society will be closed as members and volunteers pack up research materials and archives from the society’s temporary headquarters on Mount Salem Avenue in preparation for the much anticipated move to its “new” building on Gay Street.

On March 12, the society will reopen its doors to the public in its renovated building which boasts a new and much needed addition.

Flint Hill sets carnival dates *

The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s annual fireman’s carnival has a new date and also new rides for this year. The dates are June 13-16 and Virginia Premier Events will provide the rides.

The grand parade will be held Friday, June 15 with grand prize drawings on Saturday, June 16. This year’s prizes are a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup and a registered Black Angus heifer. Anyone interested in helping with the carnival may call the firehouse at 675-3286. “Be sure to mark the new dates on your calendar so you don't miss this annual event, fun for the whole family," said an organizer.
