Who says we need a newlighting
ordinance? Howmany advocates do we see at the Planning meetings each month? Do we only have the same three or four people who regularly attend each meeting and lobby for new ordinances for lighting, cell towers, sludge and so on? What is important is what does the majority of county citizens want?
A survey done in Amissville over a short time period and with minimal effort resulted in a petition with about 150 signatures of citizens not in favor of a new lighting ordinance.
Does a small rural county with only 6,900 citizens and with a minimal business base need a lighting ordinance that you might expect to see in a city the size of Charlottesville? We have citizens who remember Rappahannock County before we had electricity and we really had “dark skies”.
