tion will commence next year with support from VDOT. He also said that the pedestrian bridge design has been completed and that all approvals except for VDOT’s have been received. Once VDOT approves the bridge plan, bids will be solicited. Mr. McCarthy expects that the construction of the bridge and associated walkways will be completed by May of 2002.
• Mr. McCarthy requested and received okay for a $29,513 computer upgrade for the Commissioner of Revenue and the Treasurer’s offices. This upgrade was necessitate ed by software updates that can not be supported on the eleven year old system, and the funds for the purchase will come from the $250,000 saved on RCES lagoon repairs.
• The Board agreed to provide some of the funds required to reprint copies of a tourist map/brochure created by Hal and Beverly Hunter. Bryant Lee and Roger Welch spoke in support of the expenditure of $1000 and of the effectiveness of the brochure.

Until the new district lines were drawn, candidates interested in Running in the old 31st District this year included Republicans Walter Longyear of Washington and Wendell “Dell” Ennis of Fauquier.
With the new alignment, Longyear dropped out of the race and put his support behind Louderback, while Ennis competed for the Republican nod in the new 31st District, which is principally in eastern Prince William County.
Ennis was defeated in the August 2001 GOP primary by Scott Lingamfelter of Dale City, who went on to win the. delegate’s seat in Tuesday’s election.
In a related election, Front Royal Mayor Clifford “Clay” Athey (R)— whom Louderback defeated in the GOP canvass for the 1999 race — will be joining Louderback in Richmond next year, having won the race for the new 18th District.
