Some areas allow does to be taken when herds reach such proportions that they must be reduced to keep in line with available food. The main factor influencing the population of any species is the availability of food and shelter.
When not properly managed many deer are lost each year to starvation.
There are as many, if not more, people who just enjoy watching deer or photographing them as there are hunters. Both jroups are sure that the world is a better place because of the deer. 1
