“Away Tb Me” is another androgynous nude holding a star-tipped wand at a right angle to its body before an arrested, observant dog. This coupling of a dog and a person is a favorite theme of Brownstein’s.
“Sit, Stay”, a large figure of a dog, one can imagine hopes to evoke the memory of a friend. Brownstein arouses emotion by elongating some of her subject’s body parts, necks, arms, legs, or torso, while diminishing the heads, hands and feet. The seeming simplicity of her work always bears her stylized signature.
