an attempt to insure Tamora’s allegiance to Rome, creates a succession of brutal revenge killings. The perfectly snotty Alan Cumming is Saturninus who is declared Emperor following the death of Caesar, (Titus is offered the job, but turns it down) frees the Goth slaves, and proposes to marry Titus’ only daughter, Lavinia, to meld the two families.
But Lavinia, a virgin, is in love with Bassianus, brother to the new emperor. Titus kills one of his own two sons who shows no allegiance to the new emperor, and Saturninus then decides to wed the Goth queen, Tamora, to punish the sons of Titus who favor Bassianus over him. Meanwhile, the queen has a Moor lover, Aaron, by whom she has a black child. The evil Moor plots the downfall of everyone.
