Using a variety of illustrations ranging from a student dressed in the traditional burqa of a woman in Afghanistan to a map of the world, Col. Parson presented a picture of freedom won, lost, and denied.
Norm Getsinger then spoke to the audience of his experiences as a sailor and a diplomat. He made clear the point that one of the prices of freedom is that one’s life is completely turned around. He told of his dream to become a Broadway actor, and how that dream was shattered by WW II. Although Mr. Getsinger had a successful career in the service of his country, he was never to able to pursue his dream deferred.
Retired Jtmur Admiral John Marocchi then took the podium with tales of his life aboard ships in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation during the Second World War. He told of trials and tragedy; life and death; and meeting his future wife during his 15-month hospitalization as he recuperated from serious injuries received in an explosion.
