The proposed lighting ordinance simply requires that commercial outdoor lighting be down shielded. That is, the light should be directed downward so as to light up what the business wishes to have illuminated for its activity, advertisement, and security needs, and not spill over onto adjacent property. It also requires lighting be at a level to prevent glare.
There are multiple benefits of the lighting ordinance to the businesses and citizens of Rappahannock County.
One benefit is that the ordinance provides a level playing field for all businesses in the county. They need not worry about someone coming in and using excessive lighting to drive them out of business.
