Some people simply don’t need anything. So no matter how much we love them, they present a challenge at this time of year.
Holiday gift-giving can be a real struggle when you have to pick something out for your brother who lives in Oregon, whom you haven’t seen for years, who runs a country inn iso you can’t send the alwayshandy gourmet cooking tools).
One year, the mailing deadline looming, I struggled over a catalogue. I was about to succumb and order him a potted daffodil or some such, when the light dawned.
This is a guy who spent two years in the Peace Corps. This is the guy who once sent me a membership in the Save the Rainforest brigade.
In other words, this is a guy who actually cares more about his fellow creatures than he does about himself.
