Preparation
Position oven rack so cake wijl bake in center of oven. Preheat to 350 degrees. Line the bottom of a pan that measures 11 by 13 inches with baking parchment. Pan should be 1 inch deep. (A jellyroll pan is often described as a cookie sheet with sides.)
Put butter (or oil and salt) and semi-sweet chocolate into a large pot. Stir constantly over low heat until chocolate is just melted. Remove from heat
