Thanksgiving

A time to pause, count our blessings,

and remember our country and those

less fortunate

Thursday is Thanksgiving, and around the county families will be spending the day together, sitting down to the traditional feast with all the trimmings, and giving thanks for all that we, as residents of Rappahannock are blessed with. The list this year seems longer as we think of our country following the Sept. 11 events. We do indeed have a lot to be thankful for. Sometimes it is difficult to remember that even though we have problems, we have tremendous blessings.

Quite often our thoughts turn to local issues such as cell towers, sludge, lighting concerns, conflicts in general and on an on — tensions seem to overwhelm even the most determined optimists. However, we are quickly reminded that those things will be solved and life will go on and it’s the larger things that deserve more of our attention. Thanksgiving is a day for everyone to pause, to try and put aside the issues, which divide us, and reflect on the natural bounty, which is the common heritage of all the residents of beautiful Rappahannock County. We are indeed blessed, and this day of Thanksgiving seems a perfect time to remember that, and to try and keep it in mind as — come next week — we return to normal business, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season before us and the planning of everyday life. Enjoy Thursday, your family, your friends, our beautiful county and be thankful for that in which you have.
