“I think that people don’t really want to watch the television or the news and I think they’re learning that the most important thing around them is their family,” she said.

McMann does not expect the terrorist attacks and the sluggish economy to dampen the holiday for kids, and she is prepared with more products in stock than usual.

“I’ve probably bought more than I have in years past rather than less. I think that people are going to want to make sure that kids have a great holiday,” she said.

Whether you are buying a toy for a girl or a boy, a tot or a teen, the “right” toy may be the one that is least often given.

“When a child opens a book on Christmas and there’s 20 toys around, they’re going to gravitate to the toys. But after the excitement of* Christmas slows down, I think they will go back to books over and over again. Especially if parents read with kids,” said McMann.
