included in a new National Geographic publication of the 100 best photographs of the National Geographic. He was also the only National Geographic photographer included in an exhibition of the world’s best photojournalism in Perpignan, France in 2001.

Mr. Johns has also had numerous cover stories published in the National Geographic Magazine.

Mr. Johns studied at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of Minnesota. After several photojournalism jobs at major newspapers, Mr. Johns became a contract photographer for National Geographic in 1985 and in 1995 he became a staff photographer.

In 2001 he was promoted to Senior Editor of Illustrations, a position responsible for all photography, maps and art for National Geographic.

Mr. Johns commented, “I’m delighted that this exhibit of my African work is being shown here at home in Rappahannock County. It means a lot to me to share it with my friends and neighbors.”
