Susan Longyear, innkeeper of Fairlea Farm Bed & Breakfast in Washington, can laugh about it now.
“I wasn’t hurt in any way,” Longyear said in an interview. “I didn’t lose any business. I didn’t spend any of my money. It was just time.”
And she admits she enjoyed some of the time she spent corresponding with her Nigerian “pen-pal,” a purported travel agent calling himself Lanre Lawal, from a company called Essentials Consults in Nigeria.
Lawal contacted Longyear via email on Oct. 4, claiming his company had two couples having “their Honey Moon Vocations (sic) in the USA,” who had hired his company to find reservations at “very Cosy (sic) Inns, and at a reasonable charge.”
Longyear responded quickly via email, and so began a correspondence
