We are so endowed with grace that we don’t

often think about it. When we walk into the

grocery store, we expect to find several varieties of turkey, fresh and frozen. We expect to find cranberries only days out of the bog. We expect to find fresh ingredients for stuffing, pies and homemade rolls. We expect it because we’re Americans, and that’s how life is in America.

We expect so much that we begin to take so much for granted when our expectations are met. - We expect so much that we almost never say thank you.

This is the time for giving thanks. We will gather with family and friends to celebrate our blessings.

Let’s all take a few minutes in the coming days to think about what’s important, really important.

There’s family. Nothing like it in the known universe. We love ‘em and we hate 'em, but we wouldn’t trade them. They’re us and we’re them.

There are friends. Buddies, pals, amigos, sisters, girlfriends. By any name, they’re a big reason we gp on through this life. They calm us down when things go right and pick us up when things go bad. And they’re often better than family because we can walk away from them. Not that we ever would.

There are people in harm’s way. That’s so many people these days. Young men and women in military uniforms. Police, fire and rescue people. Those people up in the power poles when the lights go out. The folks driving the snow plows. The list is endless. Because they’re out there, we’re safe.
