Virgil Lee Atkins. 87, of Sperryville died Nov. 20.
Mr. Atkins was bom Feb. 26, 1917 in Sperryville to the late Ernest and Mattie Nun Atkins.
He Was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. He served in World War II from 1941-1945 as a Tech five in the U. S. Army receiving the Good Conduct Medal, American Defensive Medal and the European and African Medal
He loved coon and deer hunting, fishing and farming but his true love was his grandchildren.
Mr. Atkins is survived by two sons, James L. Atkins and wife K. T., of Warrenton, Billy S. Atkins and wife, Peggy, of Washington; two daughters, Jean A. Dodson and husband, Billy of Sperryville and Betty A. Walter of Washington; one brother, L. L. Atkins of Fredericksburg; and two sisters, Pauline Alther and Vergie Atkins both of Front Royal.
Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lois Clark Atkins and one son, Virgil Jackson Atkins; three brothers, Eugene, Wilson and Laney Atkins; and two sisters, Roberta Baker and Geneva Atkins.
A funeral service was held Nov. 23 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper with the Rev. Joel Cress and Pastor Jon Heddleston officiating. Interment followed in Woodville Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 330 and
