Hospice care involves much more than overseeing the actual dying process, which is why the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and hospice organizations expend so much effort to educate people about hospice care.
Locally, Hospice of the Rapidan donated copies of Dr. Ira Byock’s book ‘The Four Things That Matter Most” to eight libraries in a five-county area in honor of National Hospice month, and provided each library with a commemorative poster to put on display. Community educators visited offices, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities around the area to make sure physicians and discharge planners know hospice care is available for their residents if needed.
