Rust emphasized that their proposals do not impact the state’s general fund since the existing fines for driving infractions will be collected and distributed in the same fashion as they are today.

Southern Fairfax Sen. Jay O’Brien (R-39th) said he intends to introduce companion legislation in the Senate, where he hopes to partner with Sen. William Mims (R-33rd), who represents Loudoun County and portions of western Fairfax.
O’Brien said he wants to amend the proposals to specify that money generated from any driving offense in a particular community stays in that community or at least the larger transportation planning district.
“It forces aggressive drivers to rethink what they do on ithe roads, and that affects all of us,” O’Brien said.
