The days between Thanksgiving and Christmas are
nail-biters for those in the retail game. The footing
gets even more treacherous for small business owners coming off a couple of chilly Decembers.
This year, we can all do our part by keeping Rappahannock County shop owners in mind. Area retailers need our support during this critical holiday shopping season.
Over the past decade, Wal-Mart, Amazon.com and others have put the squeeze on anyone who dared to open a book store in Sperryville or an antique shop in Washington.
It’s in all of our best interests to keep local merchants in mind during December and every other month of the year. Gift ideas abound here whether we are shopping for organic food baskets, original jewelry, pottery and art work or special wines, linens from France, books, antiques, and even gifts for dogs, cats and, let us not forget, tiie horses on our list.
After all, these are often the same folks who live in our town and villages, support our youth sports’ teams, serve voluntarily on bur boards and commissions, pitch in and donate money for good causes and give back to the community m countless ways.
Let’s pay them a visit this year.
