“There’s a winner and a learner. If you were not the winner, what did you learn?” That was a quote I heard so often from a wrestling coach, Rich Pollock, who became a good friend and mentor of mine. I have used that line myself over and over as I coached youth wrestling and it certainly applies to every sport I know.
As for Anna Kreyling, she chose to become a learner of the sport of volleyball, and thus, a winner. Her accolades are resounding.
First team All-Region B.
First team All-District (Bull Run).
Player of the Year for the Bull Run District.
Over 200 season kills.
“She (Kreyling) is the backbone of the team,” said Jared Neiters of the Rappahannock County High School senior. Neiters has coached Kreyling for the past three years and watched her become effective in every position on the court.
Most hitters average 100 kills per season. In Kreyling’s last outing against Buffalo Gap in Regional quarterfinals, she had 39 kills. That is 40 percent of an average players’ kills, in only one game.
