Seven generations
of my family have

Amissville United Methodist Church is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, and many of its members have family histories there that are as old as the building itself.
“Seven generations of my family have been coming to this church,” boasted Dora Clatterbuck. “In the 1930s, my father used to drive a flatbed truck around the county and pick up children for Sunday School and church picnics,” she said quietly as she held a carefully preserved photograph which proved exactly that.
It all began with camp meetings on the land where the church currently stands. These meetings often lasted two weeks or more, and continued around the clock. In 1829, a tabernacle was built.
