The weather may not be hot right now, but the Rappahannock High School JV girls’ basketball team is heating up the courts at home, posting a win against Luray last week 51-16, and also against Strasburg, 37-33.
“We played awesome and were able to break Luray down with our defense,” said Rappahannock Coach Stephanie Shaw.
The Lady Panthers managed to hold the Bulldogs scoreless the entire first half, despite having only six players.
High scorers for the game were Ella Miller with 17 and Amanda Smoot with 10.
Later in the week, the JV Lady Panthers applied fullcourt pressure, giving the Strasburg Rams a difficult time getting the ball down court, for a 37y2D33 win.
“We have been working on our defense, which is key,” said Shaw.
Good motion and inside shots gave Rappahannock the lead throughout the contest.
In the final two minutes of play, Strasburg hit three fireethrows, one field goal and a 3pointer to narrow the gap.
However, it was not enough, with the Panthers rtiaintaining their lead up to the final buzzer.
