“Open Range” marks Kevin Costner’s return to directing after a six-year layoff since directing “The Postman” in 1997 and a daring stab at the Western form that he explored so gracefully in 1990 with “Dances With Wolves.”
Costner certainly understands the Western. This is a great motion picture and fans will celebrate the result — a classic showdown between simple men and evil tyrants against a backdrop of panoramic beauty.
