The Center for Civil War History will be under the direction of Jonathan A. Noyalas, a history professor at Lord Fairfax Community College.
Noyalas, a Civil War historian, author, consultant, and lecturer, has published numerous articles and book reviews about the Civil War and just recently published his first book, Plagued by War: Winchester, Virginia, During the Civil War.
Noyalas will deliver a lecture after the luncheon, entitled “Southern Women: What They Meant to the Confederacy.”
“Rappahannock county is an appropriate location to launch the Center,” said Noyalas.
“The County was frequently used as a pathway for armies moving between the Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia, and the region witnessed many skirmishes.
Prominent Civil War. figures that passed through or operated in the area include Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson, George Armstrong Custer, J.E.B. Stuart, and John S. Mosby.”
