Cliff Miller can tell this story well. He has chosen to mentor for many years, not only through Starfish but when living in Richmond. Even though the first youth he mentored is now in his forties, they remain close. “We have made a difference in each others’ fives. He has a fairly of his own now and his girls call me Grandpa Cliff. I was best man in his wedding and present when each of his children were bom. He is ready whenever I need his support,” reported Miller.

Starfish currently has 29 trained mentors participating in the program. Mentor training opportunities exist each year as new applicants apply, with one scheduled in late January. Matches are supported and supervised by a volunteer executive committee with professional consultants always available.
For the protection of youth and mentors, thorough screenings, interviews, and background checks are completed with references required.
