The presentation began with statistics of the town,, showing how the population has fluctuated over the past several decades.
In 1980, the town’s population was 247, then dropped to 198 in 1990.
As of the 2000 census, the population lovered to 183.
Out of the 117 dwellings within the town at that time, only 88 were occupied with an average of 2.1 living in each unit.
Herd has reviewed the plans made by WW & Associates regarding the wastewater treatment proposals that show an average usage of 43,000 gallons of water per day currently being used.
Herd further discussed the possibilities that have been studied by WW & Associates, which include hooking into the Sperryville Wastewater Treatment Facility, discharging wastewater into the Rush River and an underground irrigation system.
“There are risks involved with hooking into Sperryville,” Herd said. “I would encourage you to keep the discharge, with whatever plan you decide upon, within your area.”
A huge question that Herd proposed to the joint officials and to the five Washington residents present was, “What is the vision for the future of the town in the next 10, 15 and 25 years?”
