APPROACH
In response to the depersonalization that is so typical of our everyday lives, many people are choosing a more personal approach to death. Often this means a turn away from formal tradition toward a less formal approach. Sometimes, when making prearrangements, the deceased may make his or her wishes known that those attending the funeral may be active participants in the ceremony. To signal the appropriateness of this approach in the eyes of the deceased, he or she may be attired in casual clothing rather than formal attire. Funeral attendees may also be more casually dressed and encouraged to speak their memories of* the deceased in a spontaneous manner. This casual approach may encourage greater comfort for all.
