Sperryville Boy Scout Troop 65 observed Scout Week with a ham dinner on February 11. Surprise honors of the evening were the miniature Eagle pins awarded to Mrs. Lucio Kilby by her son. Eagle Scout Tim Kilby; and to Mrs. B. Gale Titchenell by her Eagle Scout sons, Leslie and Michael. Tim, Leslie, and Michael also received the Bronze Palm for their Eagle Awards.
Linda Beahm, a senior at RCHS, was crowned “Dear Heart” at a Valentine Party held at the school Friday evening by Ann Cannon, last year’s winner of the annual contest. Linda’s escort was Leslie Tichenell. Other Candidates in the “Dear Heart” contest and their escorts were Jack Atkins and Eleanor Rector, Billy Campbell and Ann Deal, Shirley Dodson and Roger Barfield, and Kenneth Bywaters and Sharon Suter. Votes were collected at a penny each by the five contestants, and proceeds will go into the SCA scholarship fund.
Amissville Fire Company was presented a total of $2,250 at their annual Fireman’s banquet held Friday evening in the fire hall. Mrs. A. C. Latham, treasurer of the Amissville Ladies Auxiliary, presented a check for $2,000 to Fire Chief Braxton James. Acting on behalf of the Junior Firemen, Bobby Scott gave the Chief a $200 check, and the Ruritan Club of Amissville contributed a $50 check. Talmadge Hitt made this presentation.
The Rappahannock County jail was highly commended as to its cleanliness, food and management in a recent inspection report. Custodian, of the jail is Ernest Lillard, who also prepares food for the inmates of the facility.
