• Jump crew: the person or persons relegated to checking and fixing the fences. If a fence is so broken up that it becomes dangerous during a race, the jump crew will wave off the riders to keep them from jumping the fence.
• Maiden: a horse that has never won a race. Maiden races can be very exciting for spectators, especially if there is a big field of horses.
„• Outrider: a person on horseback assigned to a designated area on course during the race. The outrider’s job is to escort horses to the start, assist in crowd control, catch loose horses and help fallen riders. The outriders are usually from the sponsoring hunt and are in formal hunting attire.
• Paddock: the area where the horses are saddled before the race.
