Strauss since Waites was a sophomore at RCHS.
“I saw her play at a major club tournament in Florida when she was a sophomore, and we have kept up with her ever since,” said Strauss.
Waites has been a goalkeeper since she began playing the game, a position she loves.
“I have to be doing something active,” said Waites. “And the conditioning for goal keeping is very acrobatic.”
While traveling on various state and national teams, Waite has missed many social opportunities in Rappahannock County — not to mention Christmas morning at home.
For the past five years, she and her mother, Lanise Coats, have driven to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Christmas morning so Waites could compete in a national tournament.
