“The Art of Fugue” will be heard and discussed at this Saturday’s (Feb. 19) performance at The Theatre in Washington starting at 8 p.m. The concert will be performed by the Smithsonian Consort of Viols made up of Kenneth Slowik, Wendy Gillespie. Jonathan Manson, and Craig Trompeter. William Byrd’s “Mass for Four Voices” (instrumental), which was composed in 1592, will also be played.
This upcoming performance presents a rare opportunity to hear two great pieces of music from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries performed by gifted musicians. It is the final concert in the 2004-2005 Smithsonian at Little Washington series.
