The Washington Tbwn Council took steps toward a possible fee hike for new water tap connections at their September meeting. The council resolved unanimously to refer the question of a fee hike to the Town Planning Commission so that new tap fees will better offset the costs of installing new taps and help pay for planned improvements to Washington’s water system.
The issue of tap fees arose in response to a request for a new tap by local resident Sid Worley, prompting the council to again point out that Washington’s current tap policies are inadequate.
“The town really needs to develop a comprehensive plan for when to give out a tap,” said Town Attorney John Bennett.
Although similar discussions have taken place at council meetings as recently as the council’s August 10 meeting, the issue of possible fee hikes was not on this month’s agenda, a fact that caused consternation to some council members.
