The fee for a new tap hook-up in Little Washington is currently $1,000, but this is low compared to surrounding towns, as Bennett has pointed out to the council previously. Culpeper charges $5,000 for taps inside the town’s borders, and in excess of $7,000 for taps outside the town. The rationale for these higher costs is that they should cover the town’s cost of installing the new tap as well as represent thet new water user’s share of the cost of maintaining town water.
“We need to adjust the tap fee so it’s fair for everyone,” said Bennett.
The council voted to refer the question to the Town Planning Commission to calculate a cost representative of the town’s needs with the help of Town Zoning Administrator John McCarthy. -
“I do not want to treat Mr. Worley differently than anyone else. We should make a referral to the Planning Commission to find what is the appropriate cost,” said Mitchell.
Worley owns two contiguous lots in town and wanted to purchase a town water connection for one of them prior to building.
