The master bedroom, on the third level, has an old dark pine floor, the planks just recovered in the renovating of an old log cabin on the property. Of special note is a real mouse hole, preserved for all to see. A casual seating area in the dressing room includes the original fireplace.
A spacious staircase at the back of the house provides access to all three levels, and serves as a gallery for paintings, notably several Virginia views by artist William Whiting.
Behind the house are the beautifully proportioned stables, filled with horses for riding and hunting. In front is a restored swimming pool, with new plantings.
Visitors to this little piece of Rappahannock County will remember the grace and dignity of the newly decorated interiors, in which all elements are ordered harmoniously, and all reflect the taste of someone immersed in Rappahannock country life. And the exterior will continue the long history of keeping watch over the county’s fields, streams and hills.
