ATV safety
According to Mark Wilson, who runs a Richmond based ATV club, most ATV drivers take the required precautions before riding.
“The very few people who don’t obey safety laws can make it difficult for the other ninety-five percent,” said Wilson.
In a June 16 article on the The University of Virginia’s website, UVA Children’s Hospital physicians claim that ATV related injuries to children are on the rise. According to the UVA trauma database, the UVA Children’s Hospital has treated patients for 98 ATV-related admissions over the past two years.
The article includes a list of recommended safety tips for ATV riders that advise wearing helmets, and tell ATV drivers never to carry passengers or drive on public roads. Haught-Howard may have felt that j these concerns were unnecessary because of the expected shortness of j her trip.
“From the driveway she left to the people she was visiting it’s not j very far,” said Trooper Corbin. “We are still investigating the incident ”
