Hopeful
Better than expected were the attitudes and outlook of Gulf Coast residents. Although Wellemeyer and Henderson heard tales of desperation and hopelessness from volunteers who had been closer to New Orleans and its suburbs, the area in Mississippi where they were was much different. In Pass Christian, DeLisle and other Mississippi towns, a positive and courageous atmosphere prevailed. Most residents were valiant and determined to rebuild their homes and lives.
