A Festival Christmas Service of Nine Lessons and Carols marks the holiday season on Sunday, December 18 at 5 p.m. The Grace Church Choirs, directed by Samuel Carabetta, will be augmented by organ and brass. The candlelight program of carols and readings features music by Rutter and Willcocks. The exceptional Vienna Choir Boys make their sole Washington area appearance on February 5, 2006, at 5 p.m. with various sacred and secular works, including music by Mozart, whose 250th birthday is celebrated in 200b. On Sunday, May 7 at 5 p.m. Washington’s award-winning chamber ensemble Hesperus and soprano Rosa Lamoreaux present one of their innovative programs inspired by the fusion of Spanish Renaissance music and that of the native New World (1492-1800). The Washington Post calls Hesperus “Engaging... imaginative.. .irresistible!” and Rosa Lamoreaux (soprano soloist in last year’s Messiah) “one of Washington’s greatest natural resources”.
