I am responding to an article
in last weeks 10-06-05 Rappahannock News that was written by Bill Kossler.
The article on the legalization of crossbow hunting in Virginia was very accurate and informative for the first half. However; in the second half Bill stated that hunting from a treestand with a crossbow is prohibited. It further stated that Ken Carter from the Trading Post Gun Store was particularly concerned about hunters being injured who may haul cocked crossbows up onto treestands, despite the legal prohibitions.
I was appalled when I read this and immediately reverified my interpretations of the Virginia game regulations on the internet site www.dgif.virginia.gov.
Crossbows in treestands are not prohibited.
They are legal in treestands just like compound bows, muzzleloaders, shotguns and rifles, where applicable. I even made a phone call to the VDGIF information service and triple checked
