A new shop, “Out on the Porch,” recently opened its doors on Main Street in Sperryville. The opening other own business was one of two major milestones reached by owner Alaina Breeden within the past few weeks. The other was her 21st birthday. The young entrepreneur, who wanted to live and work in Rappahannock County, found that there were not many options in her search for employment. She decided that if she wanted to stay here, she would have to come up with her own way of making money and she decided the best way for her to do that was to open her own business.
The shop, which sells, antiques and gifts, is an informal place, much as the name would suggest. The day I visited, I saw inexpensive antique bottles, small plates, and picture frames, as well as a green
